In the winter of 2014, while on a sabbatical as Senior Pastor of Mountain Springs Church in Colorado Springs, a church Steve started in 1995, God began speaking to him about a “road less traveled.” Seven times God spoke this word to Steve and his wife Liz. Simultaneously the Holy Spirit spoke of a new work built on being a “wholehearted” Jesus disciple.
In April of that year, Steve, Liz, and a group of close friends gathered to seek God for forty nights. As they studied God’s Word, prayed, and asked God for wisdom, the Lord spoke clearly that He was calling them to plant a new church, The Road. The key passage God used was from Isaiah 43:18-19 (NKJV):
Do not remember the former things,
Nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert.
In response to God’s leading, on May 24, 2014, The Road had its first worship service.
We were blessed to be given space to grow in the building of Chapel Hills Church. As the friendship between churches grew, it became apparent that a merging of the churches was the direction God was leading. In Spring 2017, The Road and Chapel Hills Church became one church, “The Road @ Chapel Hills.”
